This is the month of transition. It’s the end of Winter and the beginning of Spring. As Charles Dickens put it, “…Summer in the light, Winter in the shade.” It’s the time of year for new beginnings. You see the signs of renewal everywhere. The weather’s warming up. Plants are coming to life. Yes, March is reliably the promise of all good things to come. We are delighted to acknowledge that February is National Parent Leadership Month! This important initiative seeks to raise public awareness of the need to prevent child abuse and neglect, while promoting opportunities for building and supporting strong, safe families. A recent poll taken by the American Red Cross revealed that, while most people still hold a very bleak outlook of the economy, 67% wanted to give more, or at least as much as the previous year, in charitable contributions over the Holidays. We at CASA of Los Angeles feel very lucky… and thankful… every single day. The reason is simple. It’s our volunteers. Our CASAs are the backbone of everything we do to guide and support unfortunate children caught up in the foster care system. They are our heroes and we cherish each and every one of them.
