Job Title – Senior Program Coordinator, Antelope Valley
Reports to – Antelope Valley Regional Director
CASA of Los Angeles mobilizes community volunteers to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children in foster care. The organization envisions a Los Angeles where every child has an advocate and the opportunity to thrive. CASA of Los Angeles is on a path over the next five years to expand services to vulnerable children in foster care so that it provides services to a meaningful number of the 30,000 children in the dependency court system every year.
Key to these efforts is growth in the number of volunteers trained each year, the number who stay active in a year, and in revenue raised from community partners and other donors.
Under the direction of the AV Regional Manager, the Senior Program Coordinator will coach and support CASA volunteers, ensuring the highest level of advocacy for the appointed children of each CASA.
From Monday – Friday, the Senior Program Coordinator will work from CASA’s Antelope Valley office at Alfred J. McCourtney Juvenile Justice Center, 1040 West Avenue J, Room 1153, Lancaster, CA 93534. Work is performed indoors in an office setting. Some weekend and evening work is required throughout the year as needed and at major events.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide holistic and comprehensive volunteer management to an assigned group of CASA volunteers.
- Coach and support assigned CASA volunteers through consultation, problem solving, feedback, guidance, evaluations, motivation, training and mentoring.
- In depth knowledge of community resources available to children in foster care.
- Experience working with children in crisis with previous hands on experience managing crisis situations.
- Provide guidance on emerging issues and/or crisis to assigned CASAs and assist with development of case plans and provide feedback to related CASA.
- Gather feedback on CASA’s performance via meetings or phone contacts with placement (foster parent, group home) social workers, attorneys etc.
- Review, edit and submit CASA’s court reports in accordance with program procedures and provide guidance to the CASA where needed.
- Provide support and guidance to CASAs prior to and during court hearings as needed
- Maintain updates on waitlisted children’s status. Facilitate matching with an advocate as soon as possible.
- Follow identified protocol for appropriate level of involvement with the child.
- Participate in training, assignment, and supervision of CASA Peer Coordinators assigned to new volunteers.
- Participate in trainings of new volunteers during pre-service training as well as on going education
- training for current volunteers.
- Travel required on an as-needed basis, including occasional evening and weekend work.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Masters Degree in the areas of human services, social work, psychology or a related field.
- Experience in the field of child welfare.
- At least 2 years experience in the area of volunteer management in a human service setting with experience working with our key populations, children 0-5, tweens, teenagers and transitional age youth.
- Knowledge of the theory, principles and techniques of counseling with proven practical experience.
- Deep understanding of the scope, nature and referral protocol for public sector and community-based agencies serving children, youth and families.
- Understanding of the principles and practices of community agencies and community resources and their role in the treatment of at-risk children.
- Understanding of the developmental, academic, social and emotional needs of the key populations
- (0-21 years).
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
- Highly proficient in MS Office and the ability to work with new systems.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
- Experience in working with children 0-5 years old with knowledge of the current trends in the area of early childhood development.
- Experience in working with transitional age youth with practical experience and knowledge in the principles, practices and current trends in this area.
- Experience in “family finding” work.
- Experience in special education.
- Experience working with regional center eligible children.
- Fluency in Spanish.
