November 16 @ 5:16 am

Join us for this training with child development expert Dr. Richard Cohen, Ph.D (Love-Dad, USC School of Social Work).

Dr. Cohen will be talking about the importance of dads in the lives of children, the importance of expanding our model from maternal-child to family-child health and mental health. He will discuss how child welfare discounts dads who are not “cohabiting,” which contributes to disproportionality, since the largest percentage of non-resident dads are black. He will briefly touch on paternal depression and how that looks different from maternal depression. Finally, he will explore how we can understand our own responses to dads in the child welfare system and how those reactions affect our approach to the work.
