This presentation will address how the juvenile justice system works and how it relates to the child welfare system and other county systems. We will talk about who ultimately makes recommendations and decisions about youth, and how community organizations and advocates can impact those decisions. Attendees will learn how CASA volunteers can participate with the Board of Supervisors and the Probation Oversight Commission to support young people by working to shape policy and impact individual youth. The presenter is the Executive Director of the Los Angeles County Probation Oversight Commission who was formerly the Executive Director of CASA of Los Angeles, a CASA, and an LA County foster parent.
