The Basics of Juvenile Competency and Conservatorship

This presentation will explain how competency works in juvenile justice hearings. It will discuss different ways that children and youth may be found incompetent in juvenile justice proceedings and the process by which the court makes a competency finding. It will also explain efforts that are made to restore children and youth to competency. ​The training will then discuss conservatorship hearings relating to dependent youth, describing the law, the court proceedings, and possible ways for CASA to be involved. ​
