Youth who are grieving understand and integrate grief differently than their adult caregivers. The manifestation of grief through behavior can often be confusing for caregivers and misunderstood by teachers, resulting in feelings of shame and isolation for the youth. It is vital that professionals working and interacting with young people impacted by grief and trauma understand grief through a developmental lens and are equipped strategies for supporting youth. In this workshop, participants will explore common misconceptions about grieving youth, how a young person understands and integrates grief at different developmental stages, and strategies for supporting young people and caregivers who are grieving.
