Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA)

During pre-service training, CASAs learn that the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) of 1978 is a Federal law that governs the removal and out-of-home placement of American Indian children. This in-service will cover a general overview and history of the ICWA. Angie Cavaliere, tribal court staff attorney with the Yurok Tribal Court (and former CLC attorney) will discuss the ongoing need for the protection of Native families through ICWA and how CASAs can appropriately advocate for children with ICWA status.

Presented by: Angie Cavaliere, Tribal Court Staff Attorney @ Yurok Tribal Court
