Introduction to the Youth Justice System

June 15 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Introduction to the Youth Justice System

CASA/LA’s advocacy has primarily focused on the overall well-being of youth in the dependency system —  CASA volunteers can also advocate for youth in the justice system. Navigating two systems can be challenging for youth and their families. CASA volunteers are in a unique position to support youth involved in dual systems—but how does one navigate and advocate? This in-service is an introduction to the (in)justice system. We will share a brief history of the (in)justice system, explain how systems interact, and share relevant research. We will introduce best practices around dual–status advocacy and how CASAs can help youth navigate two complex systems, provide community resources, and share our youth justice handbook.

Presented by:
Monica Kincade (she, her, hers), advocacy team manager @ CASA/LA
& Tamara Bingham, advocate supervisor @ CASA/LA
