Supporting Grieving Children as a CASA

Grief and loss affect us all. In your work as a CASA, you may have been dealing with a death of a family member while providing support to your youth. Or perhaps your youth is grieving the loss of a loved one due to death, incarceration, homelessness, abandonment, etc. This training will be provided by Lauren Schneider of OUR HOUSE who is an expert in the topic of child and adolescent grief. Throughout the training, she will present a theory about grief and together we will look at how culture and family of origin informs your understanding of grief. We will learn developmental information about how children grieve at different ages. Most importantly, we will discuss how to listen so kids feel comfortable talking to you about the deaths they have experienced and about their loved ones’ who have died. Additionally, we will talk about the importance of self-awareness of your own history of grief and self-care.
