Strengths Based Advocacy for CASAs

Within the child welfare system, there is a pattern of perceiving challenges experienced by youth as being a result of their own shortcomings. This can lead service providers to focus on a youth’s deficits, or how to “fix” a youth, both of which can be harmful and distract from identifying the true support a young person may need. This training will cover strategies to better advocate using a strengths-based approach. By actively looking for strengths and opportunities, CASAs can help shift the narrative and break negative stigmas that our youth regularly experience.
