Doulas
THREE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- What is a doula and how they can support before, during and/or after a birth
- How doulas can provide culturally competent and relevant support to a birthing person
- Advocacy in pregnancy, birth, and reproductive health
Speaker: Stevie Merino, (M.A., IBCLC) wears many different hats as an: executive director, cultural practitioner, community organizer, anthropologist, birthworker, speaker, Lactation consultant, and trainer. Stevie is the Executive Director, and co-founder of the Birthworkers of Color Collective and doula of Color training. Stevie presents around the country on perinatal health disparities, experiences, and traditions of communities of Color. As a living arts practitioner, she has curated two exhibits highlighting pregnancy, healing, and traditions. Stevie sits on various leadership positions in the community, birthwork, and academia including the American Anthropology Association. Stevie is fiercely dedicated to advocating, serving, collaborating, and uplifting our communities.
