Los Angeles, July 29, 2014 — The Greater Los Angeles Association of Legal Administrators (GLA ALA) will be partnering with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Los Angeles for the 7th annual “Justice Jog” 5K Run/Walk event on Sunday morning, September 14th in Century City. CASA/LA is a nonprofit organization which advocates on behalf of abused and neglected children in the overburdened foster care system of Los Angeles County. All proceeds from the event will benefit CASA/LA.

CASAs deal with a range of challenges that impact the lives of Los Angeles’ 28,000-plus children in the dependency court system. Volunteers receive in-depth training in courtroom procedures, so no legal background is necessary. Their role is to advocate in the courtroom and beyond on behalf of children, assuring their well being, but also extending into education and placement within a permanent home. CASA volunteers pursue many paths to achieve the end goal of helping create a good environment for the child.

The 5K’s starting point is on the corner of Avenue of the Stars and Santa Monica Blvd. and the entire run will take place in the streets of Century City. Runners, teams and volunteers can register now; information is available at www.casala.org/justicejog or www.imathlete.com/events/glaalajusticejog. Registration is $40.00 for individuals and includes a t-shirt and complimentary hosted breakfast.

Last year’s Justice Jog raised more than $94,000 for CASA, through a combination of online donations, registration fees, and corporate sponsorships. The event drew a record turnout with a total of 574 registered runners and walkers, including 67 corporate teams, including 35 law firm teams.

ABOUT CASA/LA
Founded in 1978, CASA of Los Angeles is a community-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to mobilize community volunteers to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children in the overburdened foster care system of Los Angeles County. CASA’s vision is of a Los Angeles where every foster child has an advocate and the opportunity to thrive. Through committed, highly trained everyday citizen volunteers, CASA brings the voice of a concerned community into the child welfare system. Studies have shown that children with CASAs receive more assistance and support than children without, and are more likely to be adopted or returned to their families and less likely to reenter the child welfare system.
